Rachael Ray: therapist with a spatula? I doubt it.

TV Squad has concerns about Rachael Ray's soon-to-appear television talk show. After seeing a news crawl regarding the planned topics of Rachael's show (which includes relationship advice), a commentator stated:

"It said that Ray's show will feature "can do advice" about cooking, travel, and...relationships?

Oh, great. Dr. Phil with a spatula.

Seriously, do we need yet another talk show that gets into the relationships and personal lives of the guests?"

To TV Squad's credit, Rachael Ray is supported as a great popular cook who relates well to people. However, this part of the criticism seems unwarranted to me.

Rachael doesn't need to be a relationship expert to have great relationship coverage on her talk show. She needs good guests. The role of the host is to facilitate interesting dialog with visitors, not to monopolize the conversation. So long as Rachael Ray can book good guests (and this show will be so hot that top people will be happy to appear) and can direct conversation, I don't think we have to worry about "Dr. Rachael" ruining the program.
