Poolside tips: solar rings and strawberry granitas

I don't know where you live (actually, I can check the logs and figure it out, I suppose), but it is HOT HOT HOT where I am. We are talking 100 degree days. So, what does one do when the temperature gets so hot that you can make your Rachael Ray recipes by using asphalt as a griddle? Well, duh, you hang out by the pool, soaking up the rays (get it, "rays?") and occasionally taking a comforting dip.

I have two poolside tips you cannot beat. First, whip up a frozen batch of Rachael Ray's strawberry granitas for cool refreshment (the recipe has appeared at this site before). They are tangy, tasty and altogether dreamy.

Second, take advantage of the sun and a great invention to keep your pool at just the right temperature while saving money in the process. Solar Sun Rings are pool heating devices that float atop the water. They are blue on the bottom, clear on the top. This allows them to soak up more rays than George Hamilton and to send that heat right into the H2O. They are also magnetized, so you can hook many of them together for maximum effect. These things are a godsend if you have a pool. The old solar blankets are a pain and a safety hazard. Other systems tend to cost a fortune. These things are easy to use and amazingly safe.

The pool is great in the summer, and although we'd like to cool off in the water, we certainly don't want it to be as cold as our strawberry granitas! That's why anyone interested in a great poolside tip has to take a gander at Solar Sun Rings.

I have 2 kids and I hate dealing with our solar pool cover. We were going to buy a solar reel this week but that is not a perfect solution either. The Solar Sun Rings look like a great alternative. I love that they are easy to handle and store. Then safety aspect is a “no-brainer.” The thought of one of my kids or our dog getting trapped is scary to think about. Very Cool!

One of the best things I ever bought for my pool.

I have 8 of them on my 16 x 32 foot in-ground pool. In the beginning of the season they were helpful in getting my pool water up about 2 degrees a day.
