Obnoxious Bourdain Opines re: Rachael

Leave it to Mr. "I wanna be the Hemingway of food--without the talent" to pick on the one and only Rachael Ray. Anthony Bourdain, head swaggerer at "No Reservations", recently offered some commentary on Rachael in a piece you can read at Forbes.

Apparently, Bourdain (who doesn't have as many bestsellers, television shows, or fans as Ms. Ray) is not a big fan of making Julia Child/Rachael Ray comparisons. Here's an excerpt:

"Julia Child was about aspirations, about becoming better, cooking better, saying `you can do this,'" he said. "I don't just feel that's the business that Rachael Ray is in. Somebody with that kind of power and influence to aim so low - it bothers me."

Oh, and Bourdain aims so HIGH, doesn't he? Whatever. Bourdain's obnoxious remarks smack of professional jealousy to me. How about you? Or is AB merely one of the snarky elitists who build their sense of self worth by differentiating themselves from the "common masses" who might dig a little yummo chow via Rachael Ray's instruction.

You can read more about Bourdain here.

Wasn't he kicked off the Food Network?? No wonder he's jealous. His Travel Channel show makes me ill, anyway. Can't stomach watching him gobble on those sick Indonesian and Taiwanese delicacies. >:-P At least anything Rachael fixes is EDIBLE. The ads promoting his shows make him look popular, but numbers in sales figures, ratings and Q-scores speak the FACTS. Rachael wins all the way, and so does the Food Network.

Obnoxious? How can anyone who has witnessed Ray's patter (yumm-o, delish, evoo, etc.) consider someone like Bourdain obnoxious? Call him grumpy, cynical or even a prick, but don't call him obnoxious.

He may be a bit elitist, but we're talking about food here. Foodies have always been elitist. He is a French chef who appeals to gourmets. She is intentionally lowbrow and appeals to housewives.

Rachel Ray is to food what Depends diapers are to clothing. She is to food what Applebee's and TGIFridays are to restaurants. This isn't up for argument, it's as plain as the lip gloss on her face.
